Inspired by a New Orleans bar, founders Cecil and Myrtle Meier envisioned a "one-ring circus" in the heart of Austin, a dream that has been kept alive by their daughter, Nicki Mebane, for decades.

The lounge's interior is a vibrant spectacle, adorned with elephant and lion tamer murals, colorful lighting, and a miniature carousel that spins behind the bar. While the original circus canvas illusions have been replaced by painted murals for safety, the eccentric, gypsy-vibe atmosphere remains. It's a place where the spirit of old Austin's weirdness thrives, offering a unique backdrop for nightly live performances.

Live Music Capital's Oldest Stage

The Carousel Lounge holds the distinction of being Austin's longest-running continuous live music venue. For over sixty years, it has provided a stage for local bands, from moonlighting lawyers to dentists, fostering a sense of community and a welcoming space for all.
